DPD: Person of interest sought in fatal shooting of mother picking up son from practice

UPDATE (4:40 p.m.): The 17-year-old arrested in the fatal shooting Wednesday night has been formally charged, see below for details.

The Detroit police have released a photo of a person of interest in connection to a fatal shooting of a woman on Wednesday night.

Investigators say the person was seen with a 17-year-old suspect who was involved in the shooting at 6:30 p.m. at Eight Mile and Ryan. 

The 42-year-old woman was picking up her 11-year-old son from basketball practice at the time of the shooting. The 17-year-old was later taken into custody at a nearby bus stop.

The person of interest is described as a black male, light complexion, 6'0", 200 lbs., wearing a dark hooded jacket and blue jeans. A photo has been attached.

The 17-year-old, Ralph Anthony Marshall, has been formally charged in the murder of Erica Garner, 43. He has been charged with felony murder, car jacking and felony firearm. 

Investigators believe that the person of interest is a known associate of Marshall in this case and may have information pertaining to this crime.
