DPS to have heightened security at all schools following threat from hacked FBI system

DETROIT (WJBK) - Increased security has been ordered for Detroit Public Schools Community District Wednesday after someone sent a threatening fax to the district Tuesday.

The added security is a precautionary measure, as the FBI has determined the threat to be non-credible.

But now the source of the threat is causing a concern.

According to a statement sent from DPSCD late Wednesday morning, the source of the faxed threat was a hacked FBI computer system.

"It was determined by the FBI through their forensic investigation that the threat against the district was not credible. Through their forensic investigation it was found that an (FBI) agent's system was hacked," DPSC Police Department Chief Stacy Brackens said in a statement. "DPSCD PD, FBI Detroit and the Detroit Police Department take all threats seriously and will work together to ensure the safety of our community."

FBI Detroit is working to release a statement on the hacking, and for now says they're working closely with various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
