Driver runs red light causing crash with Oakland Co sheriff cars

PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - A driver who ran a red light caused a three car accident that sent a detective to the hospital in Pontiac.

A 74-year-old driver in a Ford C-Max broadsided the detective's vehicle after going through a red light on Huron Street at Woodward at 10:43 Friday morning.

After being struck by the civilian, the detective's vehicle slid into and hit a marked sheriff's patrol car which was parked on Woodward at the scene of an earlier crash. 

The detective's vehicle careened into the back of the sheriff's car then rolled onto its roof.  The second Detective and 2 witnesses from DTE assisted the accident victim and the Detective in getting out of his overturned vehicle.  

Medical was requested as a precaution and the Detective was transported to McLaren Hospital by Star Ambulance and was evaluated and cleared by Medical Personnel and later released.  No one else was injured in the crash. 

The driver of the Ford, a Chesterfield Township resident,  was cited for running a red light.
