Drowning incidents on the rise around metro Detroit this summer

Police recovered a man's body in the Clinton River Monday after searching over the weekend.

It is just the latest in a number of water related deaths or life threatening incidents as fun in the water has turned dangerous of late.

Over the weekend a 20-year-old Sterling Heights man drowned at Stony Creek Metro Park. He died Sunday morning.

And rescue efforts were needed at the Belle Isle beach after a teen from Highland Park was rescued from the water by emergency crews. Officials Say he is in the hospital and breathing with the assistance of a ventilator. 

Safety experts say you should always swim in designated areas, have a buddy with you and wear a life jacket. 

"I make sure I keep her very close to me," said Buffy Ryals, a Clinton Township parent. "I make sure I have a vest on in the water."

Many say keeping a watchful eye on everyone kids and adults is the key to staying safe. 

I would never let them in there by themselves," said Angel Paisecki, a Westland parent. "Anything can happen really quick."
