DTE and American Red Cross installing smoke detectors to Mich. families in need

DTE is partnering with the American Red Cross to install 6,000 smoke detectors across Michigan, starting with the first thousand in Detroit on Friday, September 18. On average, approximately 30 fires a night occur in Detroit. Seven times a day, someone in this country dies in a home fire.
DTE Energy employee volunteers will provide fire safety education and home energy consultations to homeowners throughout the installation process. Through the work of DTE and the American Red Cross, nearly 1,200 Michigan families will receive the necessary tools and education to keep both their families and communities safe.
If you cannot afford a smoke detector and are in need of some in your house, call (313) 833-2690.
