Construction planned this weekend on eastbound Interstate 696 has been postponed. It will be moved to the following weekend.

It's been rescheduled because of the weather conditions.

The eastbound lanes of I-696 will be closed starting at 9 pm Friday night, August 5th and they won't reopen until 5 am the following Monday morning. All lanes will be closed from US-24 to the I-275/I-96/M-5 interchange.

That's not all. The Orchard Lake on ramps to eastbound I-696 will also be closed.

This is part of the ongoing $75 million construction project that replaces the pavement on I-275 between Five Mile and the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange.

The detour for drivers involves taking M-5 to eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road), then northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) to eastbound I-696.
