Escaped felon Johnny Rodgers caught by task force

Escaped convict Johnny Rodgers has been caught.

He was supposed to being locked up for assault with intent to murder and armed robbery. Rodgers was on the run after the Oakland county jail let him go free by mistake.

Rodgers, 25, was arrested by a U.S. Marshals task force assisted by Detroit police at about 5 p.m. Thursday near Outer Drive and Hubbell. It is not known what the circumstances of his arrest were.

Rodgers was originally sentenced to 7-15 years in prison for his 2015 conviction of assault with intent to commit murder. Rodgers, instead of being released back to the Michigan Department of Corrections from Oakland County Wednesday night, was simply -- released. 

He visited his family in Detroit near Seven Mile and Livernois just hours later today.

"I just assumed it was an accident, it didn't seem right, it didn't make sense," said his mother who then informed the authorities. 

But rather than being sent to the Michigan department of corrections -- apparently a deputy in the booking section missed the MDOC detainer.

Rodgers has previous charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, armed robbery and felony firearm.
