(WJBK) - A 52-year old woman dies in a car crash caused by a suspect fleeing police.
That suspect is now under arrest. spoke to the victim's nephew - who was heart-broken about what happened. Sadly this is the second person he cared about who died during a police chase.
"It wasn't worth it, it wasn't worth any of the result," said John Smith. "It is senseless."
Smith is mourning the loss of his beloved aunt Dawn Anderson who was killed in a car crash Monday afternoon. SkyFox captured the aftermath.
Michigan State Police had been pursuing a man driving stolen Chrysler 300 east on I-94. The 34-year-old suspect tried to out run the trooper in Chelsea by speeding north on M-52. The chase ended tragically when the suspect T-boned Anderson's Chevrolet Traverse.
She looked left over the hill didn't see anything going 80 miles per hour chased by the police you don't have much time.
The 52-year-old, who is from Grass Lake near Jackson works as a nurse in the Chelsea area. She was exiting the country market when she was struck.
Her nephew says she had stopped there to pick up some groceries for Thanksgiving dinner.
"This is the second person I have lost in a police chase," he said. "My real thought my real thought is why are they chasing people through Chelsea at 2 p.m.in the afternoon
Michigan State Police recently revamping their pursuit policy - only chasing motorists if they are wanted for a felony. But it didn't make a difference in this case.
Another innocent person lost their life. John says the family, which had been planning to get together for the Thanksgiving holiday is now preparing for Dawn's funeral.
"She meant a lot to me, she meant a lot to our whole family," he said. "She was a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a sister.
"I just want to remember my aunt for the awesome person she was."
