Family of boy killed in tub accident has history with CPS

Police are continuing to question the mother of a 2-year-old who died after being found badly burned in the family's jetted tub.

The little boy was found face-down in the tub around 7 p.m. Monday in the family's house in the 4600 block of Avondale Avenue in Inkster. We're told the boy had burns on 50 percent of his body.

The boy's mother has been in custody overnight, but has not been charged with anything. Police say she is a person of interest while police try and learn what happened.

Police say the mom called 911 after finding her son face-down in the tub, but are working to learn why the boy was still in the tub when EMS arrived on scene.

"Inkster Rescue was at the location and they discovered the child in the tub and that's when they started the rescue efforts," says Inkster Police Lt. Jeffrey Twardzik. "He was breathing during CPR efforts at the home, and then later on succumbed to his injuries at the hospital that evening."

Another angle police are investigating is the fact that the boy's siblings had recently been returned to the mother from the car of Child Protective Services. Police had originally said the boy was recently returned as well but have now said that was not true.

We're told the three of the mother's children had been returned to the woman in the last six months. Police aren't saying why they had been removed from the home by CPS.

The name of the child has not yet been released.
