A wild, chain-reaction crash on the Wayne and Westland border was more than just a hit-and-run: one person was killed and the out-of-control allegedly responsible is in custody.

Joe Strick's mom, 67-year-old Alzada Dolencic, was killed in the hit-and-run accident Wednesday. The chaotic situation unfolded started at Middlebelt and Van Born but continued at Merriman and Van Born as well, when she collided with Dolencic.

Strick said he and his mom were planning a trip up north. Instead, he's planning her funeral. The mother of three was driving near Van Born and Merriman when the out-of-control driver ran a red light and slammed into her, police say.

"She was right there, hit her dead center right in the side door," Strick said. "She was always there and I love her and I'm truly going to miss her."

Dolencic's family says she had just left a doctor's appointment when she was hit just a mile from her house.

Wayne police say that driver has been released from the hospital and she remains in custody.
