Family wants justice in fatal Groesbeck hit and run of bicyclist

WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) - A Warren driver ran down a man on a bike and kept going Super Bowl Sunday.

The 60-year-old victim died and the family is waiting for justice with that suspect still at large.  

That day Randy Menendez wasn't even 10 minutes from home, his mom was wondering where he was riding his bike and when he would return home.

"They took my son," said Sophie Palazzolo, the victim's mother. "We were going to do a Super Bowl celebration and he was on his way home. I'm watching the TV and I am seeing this, not knowing this is my son."

It was Sunday, Feb. 3rd at about 6:30 p.m. at 10 Mile and Groesbeck in Warren. The 60-year-old was riding his bike. Video captured a 2018 grey Dodge Charger SRT hitting him.

She then found out someone hit Randy - and kept going.

"I just miss him so much, I can't imagine," she said. "I just hope he didn't suffer. He was good to everybody."

"He did not deserve left in the middle of Groesbeck," said one relative. "Clear your conscience and come forward. Help this family with closure."

"He's the epitome of unconditional love," said Rosanne Menendez, his sister. "People say it, but no matter what befell him, Randy has this heat that was so big and so forgiving. He had the heart of a child in a man's body."

Police believe there was more than one person in the car and witnesses who saw what happened.
