Farmington Hills man shot and killed during Craigslist meet up

(WJBK) - A Farmington Hills man responding to an ad on Craigslist was shot and killed by the person he was meeting. Now the victim's family wants his story to serve as a warning to everyone.

"Where is your soul? What happened to you that was so bad to take somebody's life?" said his wife, Yvette Terry.

These are just a few of the millions of questions Terry, 49, has for her husband's killer.

She sits in disbelief that her husband of nearly 20 years is never coming home.

"At that moment my life changed. That day. I have two kids. I have a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old who will never see their father again. Ever," Terry said.

She says her husband, who was a successful contractor and a volunteer coach, enjoyed fixing up bikes and mopeds. He found an ad on Craigslist last Wednesday.

During his work day, Todd Terry stopped in Inkster to check it out.

"He got there and this animal, and I do mean animal, because he took my husband's life. And he took it with ... a military assault type rifle. Shot him in his back. Left him to die," Terry said.

That alleged shooter was identified as Tremayne Alexander, who was arrested and arraigned Sunday on homicide, armed robbery and felony firearms charges.

"I am angry to the point that I can't even describe," said Sheila Terry-Bogins, the victim's sister.

Michigan state police say Alexander may be connected to two similar crimes in February in the same area.

"They're creating something that's not in existence for you to come and bring what? $100? $50? With the plans to kill you. So I tell people to run from it. Don't even look at it. Don't even open it up. I wish Craigslist was shut down," Terry said.

Now Todd Terry's wife and sister are left only with pictures of the wonderful father and mentor they call hard-working, loving and giving.

"We lived, we loved and we laughed," Terry-Bogins said.

As this horrific loss only brings them closer, they pray Todd Terry's death prevents another.

"We have a common goal now to see that this individual pays for his crime," Terry-Bogins said.
