WEB UPDATE (7:45 p.m.): The victim in the hit and run, Romona Edwards has died.

A young woman critically injured after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Farmington Hills. The driver took off, but police know who they're looking for.

Looking at photos of her 22-year-old niece Romona Edwards' aunt says this is the way she remembers her - smiling with her 3-year-old son Jayden. Now Romona lies in a coma.

"How can you tell a kid that's 3, that you cannot see your mom right now because she's in a coma," said Amanda, Romona's aunt. "How can you put the words together?

"Whatever happened that night, Monie was fighting for her life."

Farmington Hills police say Edwards had been partying with friends at the Bahama Motel on Grand River near Eight Mile at the time of the incident, early Saturday morning.

Police believe 24-year-old Terrel Johnson who her family identifies as her boyfriend, hit Edwards with a van, running her over and then taking off.

Farmington Hills police say they are looking for the van that witnesses describe as a newer model red or maroon Chrysler Town and Country, along with Johnson, who is described as 6-feet tall, 150 pounds with a cross tattooed on his cheek and another tattoo on his neck.

"If you were any type of friend you would have ran to this hospital," Amanda said. "Right across the street."

Edwards' aunt says she believes her niece had also been beaten with extreme injuries to her head. She said she became angrier after learning how Edwards had been found.

"She was found in the middle of Grand River, face up, blood everywhere," she said. "The doctor who is taking care of my niece - as she was going to Dunkin' Donuts to get her fresh coffee in the morning, found her in the middle of Grand River."

Meanwhile, family members continue to stay by Romona's side as she remains very critical. Amanda vows not to leave her niece until she wakes up.

Police are asking anyone if you know Terrel Johnson or know where he may be, please call Farmington Hills police at (248) 871-2610.

Johnson may be in Romulus but has also been known to frequent the southwest Detroit area.
