Father of 2 shot to death in latest Pontiac homicide

PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) - The murder rate in Pontiac this year continues to rise - the latest victim is a 30-year-old father of two.

Candles were held high Wednesday night for 30-year-old Trumaine Walker.

He was home Tuesday at 5 p.m. on Lenox at Barkell in Pontiac when a man with an AR 15 rifle got out of a car, walked up to the house and began firing at him.

Fatally wounded, Walker ran out into the street and collapsed. He was rushed to McLaren Hospital Pontiac where he was pronounced dead.

His fiancé says Walker had not disclosed any kind of threat she said he was a hard working father of two young girls, ages 7 and 4.

"We are just taking it one day at a time," said Ashley Robinson, the victim's fiancée. "It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense at all.

"I can't believe that anyone would do something like that to him."

Just 18 hours after the murder at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the suspected shooter was taken into custody by Oakland County Sheriff  Detectives.

This suspected semi-automatic rifle believed used in the homicide was also recovered as well as a car that was used in the shooting.  The suspect is a  27-year-old man who is a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana.

"Glad to have the guy off the street," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "What's frustrating though is that we've had a few high-profile violent crimes. Very targeted. They are angry at certain persons. It's not random. We just wish that people could have conflict resolution not in this kind of form. It really destroys multiple lives.

"It takes a life and we're going to find you."

Two daughters,  4 and 7 years old, lost their father. And Ashley Robinson lost her best friend and fiancé.

She says she has no idea why the shooter came after the love of her life, Trumaine Walker.

"I hope if this is the person that he rots," she said. "He took my babies' everything. He took everything."
