FBI indict Burton man for trying to buy young girl for sex, marriage

- A Burton man has been indicted for allegedly trying to buy a 10-year-old girl for sex and eventually marriage.

The FBI says Josh Michael Waldrop exchanged text messages unknowingly with agents trying to buy a young child. He has been charged with attempted manufacture of child pornography and attempted enticement.

The criminal complaint says that beginning on July 7,2017, an undercover officer began a series of text messages in which Waldrop allegedly said he wanted to purchase a girl from the age of 7 to 10 years old for $ I00 per month.

Waldrop, 24, allegedly wanted her for the purpose of sex and so that she would be his wife and bear his children when she gets older.

The Flint Area Narcotics Group identified Waldrop through the operation, then contacted the FBI.

At one point the undercover agent told Waldrop that he wouldn't be able to legally marry a child since she was l0 years old in a communication Oct. 11, 2017.

In the criminal complaint, Waldrop replied "l understand that but eventually she would be my wife. Keep it on the hush hush, then me and her can talk about how we met 20 years later lol.

"I don't want her if she's been touched by another man."

On Nov. 6 agents went to the hotel that Waldrop had checked into to confirm he was staying there. On Nov. 16 the FBI executed a search warrant and interviewed him. He admitted to sending the series of text messages to the undercover agent after they were read to him.

While discussing his text messages, he allegedly said was looking for a long-term relationship, marriage, and to have children, adding has never had a successful relationship and that "age is not important."
