Fire prevention week starts Oct. 4

- The Detroit Fire Department, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Domino's are joining forces to spread the importance of fire safety at home.

The three organizations will kick off Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4 - 10) with a special event for Maybury Elementary School second graders at Detroit Fire Engine 27 on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.

In support of this year's Fire Prevention Week theme, "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm," students will learn important fire safety messages from firefighters, go through the Fire Safety House, take photos with Sparky the Fire Dog and check out real firefighter gear. At the end of the event, Domino's and Sparky the Fire Dog will depart to make pizza deliveries aboard a Detroit Fire Department engine and spread fire safety messages to local residents.

If their smoke alarms work when the pizza is delivered to their house, their pizza is free. (Even if your smoke detectors aren't working, Domino's and the DFD will help you get them working, and still cover the cost of your pizza.)
