Flint officers save baby raccoon from drowning in barrel of sludge

A couple of Flint officers managed to save a baby raccoon after a neighbor heard strange noises coming from a barrel of sludge.

According to Flint police, Officers Reed and Hilliker responded to a call about a screaming noise when they discovered a baby raccoon trapped in a barrel of sludge.

The police say it was clear the animal was running out of energy and in danger of drowning in the muck.

Officer Hilliker kicked the barrel over to free the raccoon, which laid weakly on the ground from exhaustion.

Police say the two officers and a concerned neighbor managed to clean the animal up with a hose and dry him off.

They contacted a local animal rescue for further care.

Great job!
