Florida man struck and killed by train in Royal Oak

Royal Oak police say they're investigating a fatal pedestrian versus train accident that has taken the life of a 26-year-old Florida resident.

Police say that around 12:50 a.m. Saturday morning, police were called to the CN Railroad crossing near the intersection of S. Main St & Sixth St on the report of a train vs. pedestrian accident.
The initial investigation indicates that a 26-year-old male resident of Florida disregarded a lowered crossing arm and attempted to cross the railroad tracks in the face of an oncoming AMTRAK train.

Several witnesses indicated that the train was sounding its horn and the railroad crossing was active and working properly at the time of the incident.

The subject was transported to William Beaumont Hospital by the Royal Oak Fire Department and pronounced deceased.

The identity of the subject is currently being withheld until proper notification to the subject's family can be made.
The Royal Oak Police Department, in conjunction with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the CN Railroad Police are currently investigating the incident.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this incident.
