Food delivery driver carjacked, run down by suspect

A delivery driver was carjacked on the job, and when he tried to stop the thief, the suspect hit him with his own car.

A man delivering food in Ypsilanti is robbed then hit by his own car.

He was delivering Chinese food Monday night and ended up risking his life while making a stop on Gattegno Street.

"Why do they have to suffer for trying to bring someone some food? Getting robbed and your car also gets taken?” said Michelle Turner, a neighbor.

Neighbors saw the delivery man being treated around 10:30 p.m. after a typical delivery went wrong.

"I just saw paramedics giving support to a civilian,” said Alan Stanfield, a neighbor. “He was just bending down on the side of the road sitting with the paramedic.”

While knocking at a door, a man hopped in the delivery man's car and attempted to drive off.

The delivery man ran after him and then got hit by his own car. The delivery man has a possible concussion and extensive swelling to his leg, while the suspect ended up getting away.

"That's just sick, you know and scary. Really scary,” said Turner.

"I don't know about this neighborhood. I don't like it. So I believe, yeah, the sort of things going to happen here or around here,” said Stanfield.

This carjacking follows another incident of a delivery man's car at Aubree's Pizza in Ypsilanti on Saturday. Police are still determining if the two cases are connected.
