Former manager of Vinsetta Garage pleads guilty to embezzling more than $100K

The former manager of a popular Berkley restaurant pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $100,000.

Former manager of the Vinsetta Garage, Jeffrey Wells pleaded guilty in court last week after getting caught embezzling more than $100,000 over a three-year period. Wells had been charged in December.

On Monday after learning a former manager of the popular Berkley restaurant  admitted to embezzling money co-owner Curt Catallo says it is beyond disappointing.

"It's one thing to deal with the financial aspect, which is unfortunate," said Catallo. "But it is heartbreaking when it happens from somebody you consider part of the union joint's family as we do."

He called it a $100,000  lesson.

"Going forward we are just a little smarter for it," Catallo said. "We just had somebody who took advantage of it. It is really unfortunate for us."

The booming restaurant - built inside of a former car repair shop of the same name, is known for its burgers, pizza and mac and cheese,

Catallo says they have always been built on hard work and honesty.

Wells is facing up to 20 years in prison and will be sentenced next month.

Catallo says as bad as what he did was, Wells admitting it makes it easier for the Vinsetta Garage to move on to the next chapter.
