Free pet adoptions across Michigan on May 7, 'Empty The Shelters' Day

Saturday, May 7, 2016 has been dubbed "Empty The Shelters Day" by one generous pet company. The BISSELL Pet Foundation will be paying all adoption fees at more than 20 shelters and rescue organizations across the state of Michigan on this day.

Unfortunately, most of the places participating are on the western side of the state -- but there are a couple in the metro Detroit area.

According to BISSELL's website, All About Animals Rescue in Warren and the Macomb County Animal Control in Mt. Clemens are participating. The Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing and the Ingham County Animal Control in Mason may be a quick-trip option for some, too.

Several others are participating in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and even as far north as Boyne City.

You can find a full list of participating shelters here, plus links to cats and dogs that are available for adoption.

Also, if interested, you're also asked to submit your application with the chosen shelter early. BISSELL says families who adopt will also be given a gift of an AdoptBox™.
