Fresco by Hubert Massey unveiled at Cobo Center

It's a piece of art that has been literally a year in the making.

Celebrated Detroit artist Hubert Massey's inspiring Fresco, "Detroit: Crossroad of Innovation," was unveiled officially at a celebration reception September 7 at Cobo Center.

The fresco, a 30' x 30' legacy piece features nods to Detroit's past and future. From Native Americans that first lived in Detroit to Motown to the automobile, Massey captures Detroit's history in his piece.

Massey began working on the fresco in spring of 2017. The mural's story is powerful and the medium used to tell it, painstaking. According to Massey, Fresco is an ancient style of art that is one of the hardest to do and work with.

Massey says it is extremely difficult to do because painting on wet plaster is no easy task. But if anyone could do it, it was Massey who is only one of five commissioned Fresco artists in the United States.

Cobo Center is opened regularly for visitors to see Massey's Fresco.
