When teens from Bloomfield Hills reached out to Detroit Police to help provide diapers to families in need in Detroit, they hoped to provide 80,000 disposable diapers. They achieved their goal...and then some.

The group of students were trying to help families in need in Detroit when they started their Diapers in the D. By Friday, 6,400 diapers were delivered to the 9th precinct alone. Detroit Police Sgt Cassandra Lewis said she was excited to team up for such a great cause.

"I'm so excited. This is agreat project. These teenage girls came along with this idea and we decided to come along side them," Lewis said. "It's great that GM has decided to even walk along with us in this adventure. This is a great day for the community and a great day for the city."

That's right. General Motors were the ones responsive for dropping the large load of diapers. Heidi Magyar said when they saw it on FOX 2 earlier this week, they knew they had to help.

"We read in the news that there were some high school students trying to jump start this Diapers in the D program again and put out a call," Magyar said. "We said what can we do and how can we make this happen? We discovered that you can put 6,400 diapers plus in a Chevrolet Suburban."

Sgt. Lewis said this is a great message for the community in need.

"This is a great opportunity for our family in the community to understand that you're not by yourself, you don't have to do this alone. You've got people who love you who are going to come beside you and stand you up and your family," Lewis said.

For families who need the diapers, the information will be available on October 4th on where you can pick up diapers. And you can still help! Drop off any diapers at any Detroit police station between now and October 4th.
