GM halts sales of SUVs due to gas mileage claims on stickers

General Motors Co. is telling dealers not to sell thousands of SUVs because the gas mileage is wrong on the window stickers.

The company tells dealers that the estimated mileage on the stickers is one-to-two miles per gallon too high. GM says in a memo to dealers that it was an inadvertent error.

The problem affects all 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave models, including ones that have already been sold. The Detroit company says it will contact owners to address the problem.

GM has printed correct stickers that should start arriving at dealers on Saturday.

It says the error was discovered by GM engineers as they worked on the 2017 model year label.

The company says no other models are affected.
