Good Samaritan killed saving woman in Warren stabbing

- A young man rushes to save a woman from a knife attack, but his bravery cost him his life.

That woman is alive and now we're learning more about him and the man accused of wielding the knife.

"I just feel like I'm walking in a nightmare and I just can't wake up," said Dorothy Johnson, mother of the victim. "I can't wake up."

The mother of 24-year-old Demetrius Johnson of Warren is left looking at photos of her son's smiling face Tuesday. Johnson said she wishes she could hear her son's voice, one more time.

"He would always say 'Mommy I love you. I love you ma,'" she recalled.

Demetrius Johnson's family says Sunday night that the man known lovingly as "Deemo," had been with his new girlfriend at her cousin's house on Timken Avenue in Warren.

Her cousin's ex-husband, 52-year-old Vincent Johnson came over arguing about using her car. Coming up the stairs, Demetrius' family says he saw Vincent Johnson stabbing his ex-wife Misty Phillips in the kitchen - and he immediately intervened.

"He tried to get the guy off ... and he turned around and stabbed him multiple times in the neck," said Ericka Johnson the victim's cousin. "He just stumbled out the front door and collapsed on the ground."

Witnesses say they desperately tried to save Demetrius, but couldn't. As Vincent Johnson pulled out a gun and fired two shots before taking off.  Warren Police arrested him shortly after.

"This man was 52,” Ericka Johnson said. "Anything he was going to be, anything he was going to do, he's done it. You lived your whole life to be a murderer."

Vincent Johnson, who police say has a criminal history dating back to 1984, is charged with four counts including first degree murder and assault with intent to murder.

As Phillips recovers in the hospital, Demetrius' family is unable to stop the tears and thinking of the long life Demetrius Johnson could have lived.

"I'm hurt because I lost him," Dorothy Johnson said. "But I'm proud that I raised him right. I raised him right."
