Gov. Snyder declares energy emergency

(WJBK) - Truckers transporting fuel in Michigan can spend more time on the road in response to pipeline interruptions in Wisconsin and Detroit.

Gov. Rick Snyder declared an energy emergency Tuesday. He suspended state and federal rules related to limits on hours and days that a trucker can be on the road.

Snyder says a fuel pipeline in Wisconsin is down, which delivers fuel to the upper peninsula. The Marathon refinery in Detroit also is experiencing an unplanned outage right now.

This energy emergency is in hopes of keeping gas prices down, since more fuel can be brought into the sate now that the time restraints on petroleum carriers are waived. The order could last until 11:59 p.m. on June 6.

Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com, says there shouldn't be much impact in prices at the gas pump.

If you see a gas station you believe is gouging prices, you can take a picture and send it to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for review.
