Gunshots fired inside Fairlane Mall; lock down lifted

UPDATE (6:20 p.m.) The lock down has been lifted at Fairlane Mall.

Dearborn police sent out a notification that the situation following a shooting this afternoon is "under control" and that there is no risk to shoppers.

Gunshots erupted earlier at Fairlane Mall Monday afternoon after some an altercation outside a jewelry store.

Dearborn police confirm there were gunshots fired inside the mall before 4:30 p.m. Two males were involved and possibly were shooting at each other. 

Classes at Henry Ford Community College and at University of Michigan- Dearborn have been canceled Monday night due to the shooting.

Editors' note: In a previous report police had said that the shooting happened outside Orange Julius and that an armed robbery may have been the cause. Police are now saying that was not the case.
