TROY, Mich. (WJBK) - Perhaps you've seen posters of a missing dog around Metro Detroit.
"Every time I have a chance to go outside I look for that dog," said Joe Nahhas.
And that dog is McKenzie.
Cindy Booth is desperately trying to find her dog McKenzie. She said on June 22 she was in Ferndale visiting friends and some firecrackers scared the dog, who took off.
And McKenzie, a female coonhound weighing 50 pounds, has not been seen since.
"A week later we got a call saying that she was in Troy and I live obviously in Troy so were thinking that she's trying to make her way back home," Booth said.
McKenzie is a rescue dog. She was adopted about three years ago. McKenzie misses her brother and sister beagles.
"I am so impressed and amazed by everything she's doing to get her dog back because you know, that's her baby," said Rebecca Tamm, a friend and McKenzie supporter.
And amazingly, what has Booth done? Now there's a "finding McKenzie" Facebook page, fundraisers, posters from Ferndale to Troy, feeding stations and.....
"I hired a dog tracker ... She comes out with her scent dogs and confirms these sightings for me as well," Booth said.
But the costs to print the posters, the food at the feeding stations, and the cost of the dog tracker adds up.
If you'd like to make a donation, Booth has set up a CrowdRise page "Help Track Mac."
"If you chase her, she'll just run further," Booth said.
And McKenzie is absolutely out there.
"She's just going show up one day like, 'Hey guys, what's for dinner? I'm hungry.' So yes, she's absolutely out there," Tamm said.
