High school senior shot in Pontiac, police say original reports were false

While initial report were that a high school student was shot while waiting for the school bus Monday morning in Pontiac, police are saying the situation is quite different.

Original reports said the male student, a high school senior, was struck while waiting at a bus stop on his way to Pontiac Academy for Excellence around 7:30 a.m. The shooting took place at Martin Luther King Boulevard and North Perry Street.

Oakland County officials are now confirming the boy was indeed shot in the back with a small caliber gun.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries and as he becomes able to discuss the situation, police hope to learn more to piece the story together.

"We are in close communication with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department as they are investigating the incident," Dr. James Spruill, superintendent of Pontiac Academy for Excellence, said in a statement. "We want to assure all parents and students that safety is our number one priority. The school day will continue as planned and counseling services are available to all students. We will share more information as the situation develops."
