Hit-and-run motorcycle crash leaves 2 hospitalized

- An Oxford man was critically injured after a driver plowed into his motorcycle, sending him and his passenger flying into the street.

That driver just took off and now the victims’ families are hoping someone will come forward to help police find the person responsible.

They thought it was the end to a perfect day at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

"This is my son Ronnie's Christmas. He looks forward to the Woodward Dream Cruise - lives for it," said the man's mother, Judy Bunker.

Ronald Bunker was heading home on his motorcycle with his childhood friend Courtney Baize riding on the back.

When the friends made their way through Pontiac at the intersection of Perry and MLK, that's when their families say things took a tragic turn.

Out of nowhere, a car turned in front of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to ram into the car.

Billy Baize said Bunker did his best to protect Courtney.

"He put himself in front of her to take the brunt of the impact and that's why her injuries aren't as bad," he said,

But Bunker says the impact of collision caused her son and Courtney to be thrown into the street.

"The person chose to leave the scene. My son was left unconscious in the road and his daughter also. They were left in the road," she said.

The families say a witness called 911 and ultimately helped save two lives.

Ronnie and Courtney were set to start new jobs on Monday but instead their families say they're on a long road to recovery.

Bunker says Ronnie suffered from a broken jaw, four broken ribs, a collapsed lung and more. They say Courtney has a fractured jaw, a broken leg, and the tenth vertebra in her neck is broken.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is piecing that eyewitness information to find the driver.

"Whatever you had going on, why you didn't stop - you just doubled the ante on the punishment and the charges," said Sheriff Bouchard.
