How to navigate a busy Saturday downtown Detroit this weekend

Downtown Detroit on November 10, 2017. The city matched the record low on Friday morning at 19 degrees.

Detroit officials recommend if you're heading to the Motor City this weekend make your way downtown a bit early.

There's a lineup of big sports and holiday events, so you can expect increased traffic and potential parking problems.

It starts at noon with the Hitachi College Basketball Showcase at Little Caesars Arena, featuring a doubleheader of in-state matchups between Michigan vs. Detroit Mercy followed by Michigan State vs. Oakland.

Then at 8:30 p.m., the Mannheim Steamroller is coming to the Fox Theatre.

The District Detroit offers 5,000 parking spaces, including the Tigers Garage, Fox Garage, surface lots west of the Fox Theatre and public parking around the area.

You can also park a bit further away, then use public transportation to head in, like the QLINE that runs down Woodward Avenue, DDOT and Smart buses, and the Detroit People Mover.

Some restaurants and bars have their own shuttles, including The Old Sheleliegh, Detroiter Bar, McShane's, Nemo's and more. You can head in for some food and drinks, then they'll take you to your game or show. Just contact the place for more information.

Officials with 313 Presents are recommending people download The District Detroit app to reserve parking.
