I-696 to have lane closures until fall as MDOT replaces signs

- Both directions of I-696 will have lane closures in Oakland County between Novi and Dequindre roads until the fall.

MDOT is investing $8 million to replace signs, sign supports, install new signs and more. The signs are replaced every 10 to 15 years because they lose their reflectivity over time.

The left lane of sections of I-696 will be closed for the sign work, moving every 10-14 days.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Mid-July to early August, between I-275 and Telegraph
  • Early August to mid-August, westbound I-696 ramp to Telegraph Road
  • Early August to mid-October, between Telegraph and Dequindre
