Both directions of I-75 are closed in Monroe County due to a police situation. We're told authorities are currently attempting to negotiate with an armed suspect who's refusing to get out of his car.

The situation began early Thursday morning in Oakland County when the man apparently fled from police and got onto I-75. At some point, officers decided to terminate the chase and put out an alert for other departments.

The suspect's vehicle was spotted on I-75 in Monroe County, where police resumed the pursuit. A short time later, the suspect crashed near the Luna Pier exit.

Reports indicate the situation has turned into a standoff, with the suspect refusing to come out of the vehicle. He is said to be suicidal.

Police have the freeway completely shut down. The northbound lanes are closed at Luna Pier and southbound lanes are closed at South Otter Creek.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Michigan State Police is urging drivers to use US-23.
