Icy roads factor in deadly crash on I-94 in Chesterfield

Icy roads may have been to blame when a 46 year-old man was involved in a fatal crash on eastbound I-94 Sunday morning.

Police began to receive 911 calls of an accident reporting on eastbound I-94 just east of M-59. The victim was located by Chesterfield Township officers and fire united in a heavily damaged Ford Expedition off the roadway, beyond the ditch and at rest against a tree.

The victim was removed from the vehicle unresponsive and sent to McLauren Macomb Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The investigation is ongoing but investigators believe icy roads were a contributing factor. It is unknown at this point if drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash.

At this time there are no actual eye witnesses to the crash but the Chesterfield Police Department urges anyone with information to contact the Police Department at (586) 949-2322
