Lake Orion police chase with alleged drunk driver reach speeds of 110

An accused drunk driver led police on a high-speed chase through Lake Orion Sunday morning.

Noah Ray Ardelan, 36, was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol level of .23.

"That amount of alcohol, period, is dangerous," Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh said. "And behind the wheel of a car, is just inexcusable."

This is Ardelan's third drunk driving offense; he was previously arrested in 2004 and 2007.

Ardelan had nearly three times the legal limit when he led police on a high speed chase that started on M-24 and at times driving on the wrong side of the road while clocking speeds of 110 miles an hour.

"And at one point there was one road where there was construction activity going on," Narsh said. "And the officer observed the driver hit a few of the large construction barrels sending them flying in the air."

It happened at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning when the suspect failed to stop as police tried to pull him over. That led them on the chase for 15 miles through several cities including Pontiac and Auburn Hills before finally being pulled over by Waterford police.

"It's never an easy situation," Narsh said. "Every officer knows pursuits are dangerous. At the same time we have a dangerous person behind the wheel and you can't run from police and hope to succeed."
