Firefighters battled a large apartment building blaze in Woodhaven Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out at the Southpointe Square Apartments at West Road and Gudith.

Two residents suffered several smoke related injuries of inhalation but should be okay.

The fire began at 4:12 p.m. By 4:40 p.m. smoke was pouring out of the building from the first and second floors, seen in images from SkyFOX.

By 5 p.m. the fire appeared to be under control with just a little smoke coming out of a couple windows.

One of the building portions was gutted by the fire, displacing four families who lived there. The Red Cross is working to help the families.

There is no information known as to how the fire began.

Investigators say the start of the fire does not seem suspicious but are still gathering evidence.
