A Macomb County woman who received two double lung transplants in less than three years passed away Monday.

Heather Wendt's lifelong battle with came to an end this week after the 41-year-old's heart stopped from an infection.

FOX 2 first shared Wendt's story back in September 2012 when she was about to receive a rare gift -- a second set of donated lungs in 19 days. She lived another three and a half years with her new lungs.

"She was caring and loving and loved life," said Billie Jo Parenteau, her sister. "She did everything she could for people. If she was still strong enough, and had the energy to do it, she would do it for somebody, in spite of her health issues."

Wendt's family has set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for funeral costs, found here.

The Detroit Pub in Clinton Township is also hosting a benefit on April 3, and are asking local bands to help out and perform.
