Macomb animal group's rescued dogs from Irma, Harvey need homes

- As Puerto Rico continues to pick up the pieces, some four-legged victims of Hurricane Harvey down south are arriving in metro Detroit.

There was surely no shortage of energy and kisses in the backyard of Mark Provo's Macomb home Friday. Volunteers with the Michigan Animal Crew Rescue stopped by with some very special pups.

"They just took in a bunch of dogs and puppies as a result of Hurricane Harvey by way of Texas and now dogs coming in from Irma as well," Provo said.

Provo, volunteering with the crew, spotted a 4-month-old black lab, Shepard mix brought up to Michigan from Texas - a sweet survivor of Hurricane Harvey - and lovingly named him "Cane."

Cane was gleefully playing with several other dogs that’ve been displaced and are now, ready to be adopted...

Zander is a terrier mix about 11 weeks old and is the only one from Louisiana. Also joining the crew are Angelina and Sophie, both about 6 months old.

"She was a little shy at first," said Lisa Epley. "Once she got in the pen with the other dogs, she had no issues. She was happy-go-lucky."

A little corgie-chihuahua mix is Jax, was brought up from Houston.

Provo hoping to find forever homes for all of them.

"Fill out an application and it is as easy as that," Provo said. "Get a home visit and that kind of stuff. The fee is $295 and that includes all their shots, spay or neuter and microchip."

Easily inspired by these pups, Provo is planning a Halloween party fundraiser next month giving 100 percent of the proceeds to the rescue.

"When this horrible thing came out with the hurricane, we said we've got to do something," Provo said.
