It is a mission to make sure no one goes hungry in Macomb County as hundreds of families in need were helped today, alone.

"We were going to feed people and we ended up doing much more," said Cheryl Becigneul, the founder of Macomb Feeding the Need.

Nearly 10 years ago the Roseville-based Macomb Feeding the Need started its mission by making sure people in the community did not go hungry.

Today their mission has grown into providing clothing, employment resources, stable housing and much more.

But despite their efforts the need to help those in need in Macomb County is growing

"We have an epidemic problem here in Macomb County," said Robert "Chef Bobby" Nahra, of Encore Catering and Banquet Center. "We have about 16,000 people who are homeless. Many of them are under the age of 8 or 9 years old."

Chef Bobby is a frequent guest on Fox 2's morning news programs. When Chef Bobby is not catering events, he's serving as a board member for Macomb Feeding the Need.

"We are in need of clothing, long johns, scarves, hats, gloves, boots, lightly used - or used, it doesn't matter," Nahra said.

On Wednesday the non-profit held its Christmas dinner. Organizers say hundreds were provided food and got a visit from Santa Claus.

"They have helped me a whole lot," said Sharee Tunstall. "It is not just for homeless people, I have socialized here, met friends, it is an awesome program. I would not trade it for the world."

Roseville's police chief says the organization continues to provide a helping hand to those who need it most.

"(Becigneul's) organization is invaluable to helping our department get for these people," he said.

"Don't pass a brother on the street who really needs something to eat," said Tunstall.
