The man accused of a fatal hit and run of a 60-year-old bicyclist in Warren faced a judge Friday.

An anonymous tip helped lead detectives to William Christopher Davis, charged with the death of Randy Melendez at 10 Mile and Groesbeck Super Bowl Sunday.

Police say Davis made every effort to hide his Dodge Charger after he sped away from the accident scene.

"Witnesses stated that Will arrived with the tow truck parked vehicle on property concealing car under a car cover and removing the license plate," said Det. Todd Murray, Warren police.

After police caught up with Davis he lied to investigators about his involvement in the crime.

"Davis initially lied and stated that his vehicle had been stolen two weeks prior to the incident," Murray said.

As the victim's family watched in court the prosecutor requested a high bond.

But Davis' attorney requested a tether and a nominal bond for his client who he says works at Ford and attended college. He also told the court that the prosecutor left out a key point about his client.

"When he was driving his vehicle he had the right of way," said Gary Jones, the defense attorney. "This is an individual who came out of nowhere and entered into a lane of traffic."

The judge set Davis' bond at $1 million cash surety. The victim's family believes they will get justice for their loved one but they still feel defeated.

"They can grieve and cry for their loved one but our loved one is dead - we won't see ours again," said Roseanne Menendez, the victim's sister.
