(WJBK) - A Dearborn Heights man accused of plotting to attack a Detroit church will be in court Monday. Federal authorities say they have been watching 21-year-old Khalil Abu Rayyan since last year.
Right now, he faces only weapons charges, but according to investigators he used his Twitter account to show his support for ISIS but also told an undercover FBI agent about his plans to shoot up a popular Detroit church near his work. Investigators have not released the name of the church.
According to court documents, the suspect's father actually stopped this plan. He found the guna s well as bullets and a mark he was going to wear during the attack in his son's car. He had also apparently been practicing loading and reloading the weapon. According to court documents, he also made threats to officers.
A detention hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon. This is when they determine what his bond will be.
