Burned car connected to deadly hit-and-run, man arrested

Police in Waterford have made an arrest after a man was hit by a car and killed, FOX 2 is told.

The hit-and-run accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Elizabeth Lake Road between Preston Avenue and Voorheis Road, which is near W Huron Street. We're told the person who was killed was John Henke. He was 65 years old.

"I heard all kinds of commotion I heard the sirens the fire engines the police cars," Anthony Bartolotta tells us. He lives about a block away from where the crash happened.  Police say the victim was trying to cross the street when he was hit.

Later that night, police were called about a mile away to the old Sam's Club on Summit Road. When they arrived, they found a 2003 red Honda minivan fully engulfed in flames.

Police connected the minivan to the hit-and-run and have arrested a 36-year-old man from Pontiac.

Police have not yet named the suspect.

"Just to leave a human being in the middle of the Elizabeth Lake road and take off, I hope they punish him for a very long time," Bartolotta says.
