Barricaded situation in Grosse Pointe ends peacefully

A barricaded situation at a Grosse Pointe home Monday ended peacefully when the suspect surrendered.

Authorities had the home in the 700 block of Rivard Boulevard surrounded since about 1:30 a.m. Monday. That's near Mack Avenue and Cadieux Boulevard. The situation ended around six hours later.

Police were called to the home for a possible suicidal situation, and when they got there they confronted a 47-year-old man. He ran into the home upstairs to a bedroom.

Police weren't sure if he was armed, so they surrounded the home and called in a SWAT team. Family members were home at the time but were able to leave and get to a safe place.

We're told the suspect eventually called his attorney later in the morning before surrendering. The suspect is at an area hospital now getting checked out.

No shots were ever fired and nobody was harmed.
