Man charged after hitting elderly man and woman, leaving scene

Authorities in Lyon Township, Mich. have charged a man they say hit two people in a parking lot.

The Oakland County Sheriff's office says a 74-year-old woman and 82-year-old man were leaving the Walmart in New Hudson, which is near Milford Road and Grand River Avenue, when a pickup truck ran into them.

The man and the woman were in a designated crossing area and were pushing a shopping cart when they were hit.

Authorities released surveillance video of the incident, where you can see the driver of the pickup then backs up and drives away from the scene, leaving the two victims lying in the roadway. A couple witnesses can then be seen walking towards the couple. You can watch the surveillance video in the video player above.

Both victims were transported by paramedics to St. John's Providence Park Hospital for treatment and are listed in stable condition. Their names have not been given.

Oakland county sheriff's deputies were able to track down the truck, which was parked nearby. The driver was not inside.

They contacted the registered owner of the truck, who identified the driver to deputies. Deputies called the driver, who agreed to come to the substation.

The driver, who has been identified as 65-year-old Rodney Snider, admitted to hitting the pedestrians while driving the Chevrolet pickup truck.

His driver's license was currently suspended by the Michigan Secretary of State, and Snider has had a prior conviction for Driving While License Suspended.  Snider was arrested and taken to jail for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Driving While License Suspended 2nd Offense and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for an alcohol related charge.

The incident remains under investigation.
