Man fatally shot sitting on couch, house ransacked in Detroit

Detroit police are searching for a killer after a man is murdered in his own home.

A 53-year-old man was seated on his couch in his living room on Cortland Street when he was shot in the head at 8:40 Monday night.

A family member discovered the body and called Detroit Police. Also, the home was ransacked.

Neighbors say the street, which is located near Linwood and just south of Davison near Central High School, is usually pretty quiet and the victim seen often.

"That guy living there was a peaceful guy," said James Willis, who has lived in the area for 43 years. "I don't know what happened. I would see him out there washing his car. His red car."

FOX 2 spoke to other neighbors who were also surprised about the shooting. As far as who would have done this or why, they don't know."

Detroit Police say that if you have any information about the Cortland shooting, give them a call or you could call 1-800-SPEAK-UP and you can remain anonymous.
