Man found not guilty in fatal shooting at social club Easter morning

The man accused of shooting two women and killing one in Highland Park last April has been found not guilty.

Anthony Moore, 27, was charged with killing Tiffany Cook, a mother of three, and wounding a pregnant woman at a birthday party at a social club in the early hours of Easter morning.  The pregnant woman was shot twice in the leg but she and her baby survived.

On Friday Moore was found not guilty by jury on charges of open murder, firearms possession by felon and felony firearm. Another charge of assault with intent to murder was dismissed.  Moore was considered a habitual offender with previous convictions of home invasion and fleeing and eluding police.

Police say it was fight between two people at the party that led to the incident and that the two women were innocent bystanders March 27. Moore allegedly entered the club and started shooting. Investigators said other people may have also been targeted at the club and multiple other shots were fired.

"The suspect in this case produced a weapon possibly more than one weapon," said Det. Paul Thomas of Highland Park police. "We have two young women, both innocent bystanders, victims of a nonsensical argument."

At the time of the shooting, police said that many of the partygoers were scared to talk, which proved a challenge for the investigation.

The grieving boyfriend of Cook spoke to FOX 2 the day after it happened.

"I'm just all messed up, it's all bad," said the boyfriend. "She was right beside me and I see her body go down and I jump on top of her. It was just over.

"When they put her on a stretcher I said is she alright, and they said 'Yeah she is still breathing.' By the time we got to hospital that's when they pronounced her dead.

"Tiffany was a beautiful person, I loved Tiffany dearly, I still do."
