Man hit, killed by train while attempting to cross tracks in downtown Royal Oak

A man is dead after a train hit him while he was attempting to cross train tracks in downtown Royal Oak, police said.

According to the Royal Oak Police Department, the 24-year-old man from Flat Rock was trying to cross the tracks at 6th Street and Main Street just before 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the man was outside of the designated crossing area and disregarded crossing signals. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.

The victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Amtrak train that hit the man was traveling northbound with passengers on board at the time of the incident.

Royal Oak police, Oakland County Sheriff's Office, and CN Railroad are investigating the incident.
