A Novi man is accused of going on a bizarre crime spree, using his pickup truck as a battering ram at two businesses in Farmington Hills.
FOX 2 is told the driver wasn't provoked, a guy claims he was just trying to have a cigarette outside when Bryan Hoffmeyer tried to hit him with his truck.
He wouldn't say it on camera, but the man talking through the doorway claims 58-year-old Hoffmeyer tried to kill him last Saturday morning, ramming his truck into the wall of his room at the Motel 6 in Farmington Hills.
He says he made it through the doorway just in time, but police say Hoffmeyer's bizarre behavior didn't end there. He headed for the Sunoco at Nine Mile and Farmington Road.
Brian Ross caught the aftermath.
"I was on my way to get my coffee at 8 a.m. and there were cops everywhere and the door bashed in," said Ross.
The owner told Ross when Hoffmeyer showed up, he threw some bottles of windshield wiper fluid into the ice freezer, went inside and started stealing pennies from the counter..
Hoffmeyer became belligerent when the owner asked him if he was going to buy anything.

"My man Arkin confronted him," Ross said. "He then jumped in his truck, threw his shirt at him and then tried to run him over. He ran in the gas station than rode the truck right through here (after him)."
Surveillance video shows Hoffmeyer steer his 1993 Ford Ranger toward the gas station. He waits a split second for the owner to make it inside and then plows right through the double doors.
He backs up and takes off.
Hoffmeyer is facing felonious assault and several other charges for running his truck into the motel, the gas station, hitting the clerk's car and possibly doing the same at two other nearby businesses that same morning.
Police arrested him at a nearby 7-11. They say Hoffmeyer wasn't drunk - but are still investigating whether he was on drugs.
"We thought it was a snatch and grab with ATM," Ross said. "Because a lot of that is going on. That was kind of wild."
Luckily no one was injured at any location - just a lot of damage done.
