Man shot and killed while driving on Gratiot in Detroit

Detroit Police say a man who was shot while driving on Gratiot Thursday morning has died.

The man, was driving his Lincoln Navigator on Gratiot when he was shot late Thursday morning.

Those at the scene said the driver was stopped at a light when he was shot in the head. He then shifted into reverse and crashed into the fence of a nearby business. The shooter is still at large.

"He was at the light, we have not determined where the shot came from," said Sgt. Cassandra Lewis. "So that is still part of our investigation."

Patrick Longueuil was a witness to the deadly shooting.

"I was sitting there by the light, heard the gunshot, truck rolled back, guy shot in side of the head," he said. "These people are nuts, some people are nuts."

Longueuil and other witnesses at the scene say the SUV was stopped at the intersection, when the gunshot came from another vehicle.

Bystanders rushed to help, until paramedics arrived.

"They were screaming, he's been shot he's been shot," Longueuil said.

Police believe this was not a random shooting and are investigating the motive.

Police at this time, are still looking for the shooter. Those who tried to help, are just trying to forget.
