Man shot in the back at early morning Oak Park party

A man was shot in the middle of a normally quiet Oak Park neighborhood.

The victim was a 23-year-old, wounded in the back at a party on Albany Street at about 3:45 a.m.

He is in stable condition and recovering at a local hospital. Police believe the motive for the shooting was jealously.

"She was having a party at a house when she and the victim went outside to have a conversation about relationship issues," said Lt. Samantha Kretzschmar, Oak Park police. "When the perpetrator walked down sidewalk up to victim and shot him."

As the investigation continues, a person of interest is being held, but on unrelated charges.

This Oak Park resident does not want her identity revealed, but the events surrounding a recent shooting on her block have left her unsettled.

"My husband and I were in the bed sleep and we heard one pow" said the neighbor. "I heard cops saying come out with your hands up."

Police do not believe this was a random shooting and they want anyone who has information regarding the incident to contact them immediately.

This concerned resident  says she just wants peace to be restored to her neighborhood.

"That's the way I'm used to it," she said. "And that's the way I'd like for it to continue."
